MAIR RAJPUT is the name of a Hindu / Sikh punjabi caste in India from amongst thePunjabi Rajputs. They are believed to have migrated hundreds of years age from Ajmer Marwara and Rajputana and settled down in Punjab. Mair Rajputs in punjab chose to work as Sunars, a hindi word for Goldsmiths or Jewellers. Today they are a very successful clan of people and have brought pride for the families and country by excelling in all walks of life. A small percentage of them is still continuing the business and working as Sunars.
Today mair rajputs live not only in India but have migrated and settled all over the world. But it is very sad to note that many mair rajputs donot want to be recognised as such and do not write their castes with their names. They prefer to be called with other castes. Why ?
The profession of Sunars is being adopted now a days by persons belonging to all the so called higher castes like bhatia, sharma, jain, gupta, bansal etc. etc.
Mair Rajputs/swarankars face a great difficulty in find the match of their own community in order to marry their son or daughter due to the reason that they do not want to get recognised as mair rajputs in the eyes of other caste people and they don't want to put their matrimonial advertisements in the websites meant for all categories. In order to overcome this difficulty a new website has been launched 'www.swarankarmatrimonial.com' which is meant for the publication matrimonial advertisements of only mair rajput/swarankar community. Masaun Gothra of Mair Rajput[edit]
Masaun: Rose wrote: "The Masaun claim their descent from a child born when his mother became satti at the chhala or masaan, the burning place" (441). Although the above statement regarding the mother's sati is a legend similar to the Jaura origin legend, the implied connection is that sati was a custom prevalent amongst the Rajputs. In addition, Rose mentioned the Masaun custom of revering Guga, the serpent. Similar to the Jaura gothra, this is a symbol of a warrior/Rajput heritage.
